Event Details

If you've the slightest doubt that Pizza Metro Pizza warrants a special trip to South West London, consider this: Of the 200+ pizzerias honoured in the comprehensive Pizzerie d'Italia del Gambero Rosso guide, only 7 are located outside of Italy. Of the 7, only 1 is Pizza Metro Pizza.

For PizzaTuesday, the Battersea pizzeria will line up its signature meter-long pizzas from one end of the kitsch-congested dining room to the other. Not that a pizza's length matters anywhere near as much as its substance. Those baked in Pizza Metro's wood-fired brick oven look, fold and eat like authentic pizza napoletanaThe puffy cornicione (outer rim) surrounds a thin interior crust which, when cut into slices, bends easily to gather and enfold the delectably oozy toppings.

The PizzaTuesday menu begins with an assortment of antipasti, serving as the warmup for a tasting of 4 pizza varieties, from the elemental Margherita to a one-off special designed in consultation with youngandfoodish by owner Diego Palladino. He'll talk pizza with the group, explaining why he uses an Italian fior di latte (cow's milk mozzarella) from outside his home region of Campania and how he gets his crust a bit crisper than is typical in his hometown of Naples.

The cost, including wine or beer, is £25. Space is limited. You don’t have to be a pizza obsessive to attend this or any Pizza Tuesday but you do risk becoming one if you do.
